King Cobra, Very Deadly Rattlesnake!

King Cobra is the longest venomous snake with a body length of up to 5 meters, although generally only about 3-4 meters. The characteristic of this snake is when it feels threatened, king cobra will hold its head and flatten the neck, although this capability is also possessed by a kind of snakes of the genus Naja sp.

The king cobra foods are various types of snakes, both venomous or not, and lizards. These snakes hunt by relying on the sense of smell and sharp vision. It is said that the ability of both senses, king cobra is able to keep an eye on its prey from a distance of 100 meters.

King cobra is a venomous snake has venom of a type of haemotoxcin and neurotoxcin. This toxin attacks the nervous system and cause intense pain, blurred sight, vertigo, and muscle paralysis. Then the victim will experience failure of the cardiovascular system,which, if left unchecked can lead to death. But unlike the Naja sp snake, king cobra snake cannot spout its venom.

King Cobra is capable of producing toxins in quantities much more, when compared to similar snake. In one bite, king cobra can secrete venom is enough to kill up to 10 people at once even though an elephant.

The population of this snake spread from India in the west, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, southern China, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, the Malay Peninsula, the Andaman Islands, Indonesia and the Philippines. King cobra snake inhabits a variety of habitats, ranging from lowland forests, marshes, scrub, Montane forest, agricultural land, plantations, rice fields and residential areas. Being able to live from areas near the coast to an altitude of 1,800 m above sea level. The population has increasingly declined primarily due to habitat destruction caused by forest loss. Therefore, the king cobra is listed on the IUCN Red List vulnerable status and Appendix II of CITES.

One thing is certain, though the king cobra snakes have venom deadly and tend to be aggressive, but the snake with the Latin name “Ophiophagus Hannah” will only attack humans when bothered, threatened or cornered. So no need to play around with snakes and let them make out in the wild with impunity.
